Volleyball Starts Off Season Strong
Day 1 vs Opening Game vs. Black Hawk:
The first match of the regular season didn't disappoint and was one that the Lady Blazers needed to get the jitters out. After dropping the first 2 sets, the Lady Blazers fought back to a reverse sweep of Black Hawk CC. "It's exciting to see that our team is able to go all 5 sets and come out with the win" said first year Head Coach Jordan Boyer. "They've been working hard leading up to this tournament and to come out successful in the toughest moments is huge for us moving forward in the season".
Day 1 vs Second game vs. Joliet:
The Lady Blazers would take on Joliet Junior College to close out Day 1 of Opening Weekend with another great win winning three sears to none. "You could tell fatigue was setting in after playing a full 5 set match, but the aggressiveness on the floor never stopped and we were able to leave the first day 2-0".
Day 2 vs Third game vs. Highland:
The second day would be an early morning test, with the first game starting at 9:00am. "That games was hard for us and that put a strain on our ability to gather enough energy on the floor". "Playing early is not something we are to use to, but we stayed in the match and never gave up". There was a lot of fight to come back after being down a handful of points, but we weren't able to close off a set. We're glad to get the first loss of the season out of the way".
Day 2 vs last game vs. Olive Harvey:
The final game of the opening weekend would see the Lady Blazers take on Olive Harvey. "We had a huge break in between our first match and our second, but when the time came to step on the court, there was no messing around" said Coach Boyer. After a dominate 3-0 win to finish to end their time in Rockford, it became clear that this team is led by the upperclassmen and are relied on in high pressure situations. "I'm excited to see how we compete this season, and I know that we can make that deep run when the time comes".
The Lady Blazers will take on conference rival Lewis & Clark on Wednesday at Lewis and Clark, and look to build on their 3 -1 start to the season.
