QUINCY, Ill. — John Wood Community College announced that Austin Banks has been named head coach of the men’s basketball program.
“Coach Banks has worked extremely hard to recruit, retain and develop this year’s roster and has invested a lot into our student-athletes,” JWCC Athletic Director Adam Hightower said. “We had great candidates in the search, but we based our decision on what is best for our student-athletes at this time, and that is having Austin continue to lead this program.”
Banks stepped in as interim head coach following the July resignation of Jonny Dahl, who led the Trail Blazers during the 2024-25 season. Banks previously served as JWCC’s assistant coach in charge of player development. Before joining JWCC, he was a high school coach and operated a private training academy in his home state of Florida.
A four-year player at Iowa Wesleyan University, Banks led the conference in assists during his junior and senior seasons.
“I am honored to be given this opportunity to lead our guys and will do everything I can to ensure we compete and live up to the great reputation of Trail Blazer basketball,” Banks said.
