John Wood Takes Three Games Against DACC

Friday Game 1

John Wood CC defeated Jaguars 3-0 on Friday as two pitchers combined to throw a shutout. Quin Saxer and Jared Rodriguez each pitched for John Wood CC in the game. Rodriguez induced a groundout from Brody Julian to get the last out.

The pitching was strong on both sides. John Wood CC pitchers struck out five, while Jaguars sat down two.

John Wood CC were the first to get on the board in the fourth when Noah Deas singled, scoring one run.

Saxer earned the win for John Wood CC. The lefty surrendered seven hits and zero runs over eight innings, striking out four and walking none. Drew Ogden started the game for Jaguars. The starter gave up eight hits and three runs (two earned) over five innings, striking out one and walking one. Rodriguez collected the save.

Alejandro Couverthie led John Wood CC with two hits in four at bats. Evan Sohn, Deas, and Haidyn McGill each drove in one run for John Wood CC.

 

Friday Game 2

Kevin Martinez drove in four on three hits, but John Wood CC fell to Jaguars 11-6 in Game two.

Jaguars got on the board in the top of the first inning after a quick three run score by Danville Area, thanks to two John Wood errors. A double, and a single helped Jaguars extend their early lead in the second. A deep home run to right field, scoring two runs in the top of the sixth for the Jaguars.

John Wood CC piled up 11 hits in the game. Evan Sohn and Michael Lucas each collected multiple hits for John Wood CC.

 

Saturday Game 1

John Wood Baseball snatched the lead late in their 2-1 victory over Jaguars on Saturday. The game was tied at one in the bottom of the fifth when Michael Lucas hit a sacrifice fly, scoring one run.

Both teams were strong on the mound. John Wood pitchers struck out seven, while Jaguars sat down one.

A single by Lucas put John Wood on the board in the bottom of the third.

Chris Lewis singled down the left field line, which helped Jaguars tie the game at one in the top of the fourth.

Kevin Martinez earned the win for John Wood. The starter gave up seven hits and one run (zero earned) over six and one-third innings, striking out six and walking four. Eric Rodriguez took the loss for Jaguars. The starter went six innings, giving up two runs (one earned) on five hits, striking out one and walking one. Ethan McMasters collected the save.

Lucas led John Wood with two runs batted in. The second baseman went 1-for-2 on the day. Noah Deas, John Wood's number seven hitter, led the team with two hits in three at-bats.

 

Saturday Game 2

It came down to the wire on Saturday, as John Wood grabbed the victory in walk-off fashion, 7-6, over Jaguars. The game was tied at six in the bottom of the ninth when Drew Quinlan singled, scoring one run.

The Blazers were the first to get on the board in the third when Haidyn McGill hit a sacrifice fly, scoring one run.

Jaguars captured the lead, 4-3, in the top of the seventh thanks to a single which scored two runs, an error scored one run, and a wild pitch scored one run.

John Wood made the score 7-6 in the bottom of the ninth after Gavin Duran doubled, scoring two runs, Evan Sohn singled, scoring one run, and Quinlan singled, scoring one run.

Jared Rodriguez earned the win for the Blazers. The righty surrendered zero hits and zero runs over one and one-third innings, striking out three and walking none. The reliever went one-third of an inning, allowing two runs on three hits, striking out none and walking two. Tyler Dance began the game for the Blazers. The righty allowed three hits and two runs over six innings, striking out one and walking none. Ethan McMasters appeared in relief for John Wood.

John Wood accumulated nine hits in the game. Quinlan went 3-for-5 at the plate to lead John Wood in hits. Sohn, Duran, and Quinlan each drove in two runs for the Blazers. The Blazers also turned one double play in the game.
